Are you a scuba diver or thinking about becoming a diver? Are you interested in looking for ways that you can gain the hands-on knowledge to participate in coral reef rescue and preservation projects around the world?

Consider participating in our Dive to Make A Difference program! Our coral gardener course is endorsed by Sea Shepherd and Ocean Quest Global. It will teach you everything that you need to know about coral propagation in an easy-to-understand format. As part of your education, you will learn about the following: 

  • The importance of coral reefs to ocean ecosystems, their benefits to humans, and the effects of climate change on corals

  • A basic understanding of coral biology, life cycle, diseases, and predators

  • Coral broodstock selection, coral nursery site planning, water testing, and monitoring of coral colonies

To begin the program, participants must meet the following requirements: 

  • An advanced open water certification and a minimum of 15 logged dives (if you do not yet meet this requirement, learn about how to get the training you need)

  • Pass a buoyancy test administered by one of our dive professionals (participants will receive coaching on buoyancy skills as necessary throughout the program)

    • PADI Peak Buoyancy, SSI Perfect Buoyancy, or recognized equivalent specialty are acceptable methods of meeting this requirement

  • Pass a knowledge exam based on information taught in coral propagation course

The cost for this training includes dormitory lodging, dive gear rental, course fees and materials, and meals between dives. Participants will be responsible for meals on non-dive days.
